Agar Scientific installs new scanning electron microscope and sets new standard for quality control

Mar/10/2015
Cutting-edge TESCAN VEGA3 SEM to provide in-house quality control testing of Agar calibration standards and microscopy consumables. Leading supplier of microscopy equipment and consumables Agar Scientific has installed a brand-new scanning electron microscope at its headquarters. The new SEM will allow Agar to further increase the standard of its quality control, giving customers complete confidence in the products that Agar supplies.
The new SEM – a TESCAN VEGA3 SBH – is already fully operational and is being used to vet Agar’s range of gold-on-carbon and tin-on-carbon test specimens, which are vital for assessing SEM resolution. A full-time, in-house SEM operator performs thorough quality control checks to verify the particle size range present in the calibration standards Agar manufactures and to check for contaminants and physical defects.

The new SEM is also used to perform spot checks on the wide variety of other SEM consumables manufactured and distributed by Agar, from filaments to finder grids.

By upgrading its in-house SEM facilities to the very latest generation of technology, Agar can offer its customers the highest possible standard of service and total peace of mind.

About the TESCAN VEGA3 SBH

The VEGA3 SBH was designed with respect to needs in today’s research and industry. With conventional tungsten heated cathode, designed for high-vacuum operations, this cutting-edge SEM features advantages of the latest technology,  outstanding optical properties and first-class detectors.

It allows Agar to examine specimens at up to 1,000,000x magnification with superb clarity, while the VEGA3’s wide range of add-ons and accessories mean that Agar’s SEM will stay at the leading edge for years to come.
