TESCAN microscope was installed at Charles University

The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University in Prague can boast a unique device since the end of last year. TESCAN has implemented there a field emission scanning electron microscope MIRA II XMH equipped with a focused ion beam. The faculty has therefore become the only university department in the Czech Republic to own such kind of apparatus.

The faculty has already been using one TESCAN microscope, and is very satisfied with it. As a result, when choosing a supplier, they did not hesitate to decide for the same brand. Prof. Vladimír Matolín, DrSc., deputy head of the Department of Surface and Plasma Science, is happy about the cooperation with TESCAN. “The microscope has proved to be of high quality. We have done a lot of work with the device, particularly in electron beam lithography and in research of fuel elements, the results of which we have presented abroad. Communication with the company has been very natural and smooth, in all respects. It has proved very useful particularly in less standard cases. It has fully met my requirements for a quality cooperation between a company of this type and a university.”

TESCAN’s Managing Director Jaroslav Klíma says he values the cooperation with the faculty very high. “We get a lot of impulses and experience from them concerning the use of our microscope, in development of software for lithography, for instance. This is very useful for us. On the basis of this efficient feedback, we think of possible improvement of certain functions in our devices.” Three graduates of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics in Prague are now working in TESCAN‘s R & D Department.
The newly installed microscope has wider analytical possibilities than the previous one. The faculty is planning to use it in preparation of disks for transmission electron microscopes and in development of single nanotube sensors.

The INDUSEM is a new model of a scanning electron microscope intended for industrial applications. This system is compact, based on a robust and transportable frame. The extra large chamber and low vacuum system enables investigation of wide sample range and makes INDUSEM an ideal system for e.g.  quality control and failure analysis within a production plant.
