New developments in the Li battery industry using the TESCAN LYRA3 Ga FIB-SEM

Diffusion Control of Organic Cathode Materials in Lithium Metal Battery
Organic cathode materials for lithium batteries are becoming increasingly popular because they have high theoretical redox voltage, high gravimetric capacity, low cost, easy processing, and sustainability. However, their development is limited by their solubility in the electrolyte, which leads to rapid deterioration of the battery upon cycling. In this work, the authors developed a strategy to address the poor cycling performance of Li-PTCDA batteries. They developed a graphite-based membrane, which is expected to greatly expedite the deployment of batteries with organic cathodes.

The morphology and microcharacterization including elemental analysis and chemical mapping of the cycled anodes and separators were examined using the TESCAN LYRA3 Ga FIB-SEM equipped with EDX and TOF-SIMS spectrometers.
