Nanostructured composite kaolin/TiO2 (KATI) has been successfully introduced to the existing automotive brake pad formulation. This pad with modified formulation has exhibited a significantly higher durability compared to commercially available pads. The TESCAN S8000G Ga FIB-SEM equipped an EDX spectrometer was used to obtain elemental maps of selected areas, while the TESCAN TIMA was used to perform Liberation analysis of the samples, combined BSE intensity and X-ray spectra were used to distinguish the phase boundaries.
