TESCAN Q-PHASE is involved in the discovery why cancer returns

Scientists from the Masaryk University identified one of the reasons why some patients undergo with a reccurence of cancer. The unique records from multimodal holographic microscope Q-PHASE have helped them to document unknown behavior of cancer cells.

TESCAN Q-PHASE is involved in the discovery why cancer returns

A team of scientists documented through unique recordings the behavior of cancer cells. They managed to disprove the generally accepted fact that a tumor cell which enters a second one will die and thus reducing the number of cancer cells. The discovery showed that the result of this connection is conversely a living tumor cell which uses the characteristics and capabilities of its two parts and it is also so strong that it is able to resist the treatment.

“We found that the ability of cancer cells to entosis is fairly widespread so there is about 3% probability of cancer reccurence. If the cells after the entosis start to cooperate, they combine their genetic material and they can use the properties of both cells. This increases the likelihood that the cell will survive adverse conditions, “ said TESCAN Q-PHASE expert Jan Balvan.

The results of the research team of scientists from Brno were obtained thanks to the new technology of multimodal holographic microscope Q-PHASE developed by TESCAN and experts from the BUT.
